Someone walking into a plant nursery wants to see the plant, the price and the button. And to know it will arrive well.

Vivero is a block theme for selling plants: the new arrivals on the first screen, product grids powered by WooCommerce and the eight demo products with their photo. No JavaScript of its own and not a single request to an outside server.

This is how it really looks

It is not a mock-up. This is the theme's home page actually running, with its photos and its eight demo products.

A shop and a services site, the same theme

Vivero does not force you to sell. If one day you remove WooCommerce —or you set the site up for a nursery that works with visits and quotes—, the shop home swaps itself for the services home: garden design, maintenance, pruning or watering, each with its “from”.

What it comes with

Measured on the theme you download, not on a list of promises.

Seven block templates: home, post, page, archive, search, index and 404.
Fourteen patterns in three groups (shop, home and loose pieces) to paste the whole home page or just the part you want into any page.
Two fonts inside the theme: Inter for headings and Instrument Sans for text, as woff2 files in the folder. Nothing asked of Google or anyone else.
Palette and type in theme.json: eight colours, two families and five sizes. Change them from the editor, no code touched.
No JavaScript of its own and not a single request to an outside server. Check the HTML: it only loads its fonts, its photos and its stylesheet.
Spanish translation inside the theme, with contexts: the “Shop” in the menu and the “Shop” in the footer are translated separately when they should be.
WooCommerce support declared: without it the shop comes out with no buttons and no notices. With the plugin, the grid, the cart and the checkout inherit the design.

What you need

WordPress 6.6 or newer (tested up to 7.1) and PHP 8.1.
WooCommerce, if you are going to sell. The theme works without it, but the grids stay empty.
Nothing else: no paid builders, no required plugins, no subscriptions.

What it does not do

It loads no JavaScript of its own and calls neither Google, Facebook nor any outside service.
It sets no third-party cookies and no trackers.
It asks for no account and no licence to work.

What changes in 0.2.2

Ready for the WordPress.org theme directory. The theme now meets what the review asks for: readme and header in English, a full license file listing the license of every bundled resource (both typefaces and the photographs), an optimised screenshot and photographs (the package drops from 4.5 to 2.9 MB) and the compiled translations kept out of the directory package, since those ship through translate.wordpress.org.
The 404 page reads properly now. It carried PHP inside an HTML template and WordPress does not run PHP there, so visitors saw the source code instead of the message. It now says “This plant is not in the nursery”, and the search page says “We have not found anything with that word”.
The About and Shop pages start with a photo now. They carry a header band (patterns banda-quienes-somos and banda-tienda) with its heading and intro, like Contact. If you already created the pages, open each one and drop the pattern in front of the content; new pages come with it.
The menu’s white is no longer global. It used to apply to every page; on a page without a photo the menu went white on white and vanished. White now only applies on the home page and where there is a photo band; everywhere else the theme colour rules. Same for the hamburger.
No more block warnings in the editor. The cover blocks on the home page showed “This block contains unexpected or invalid content”: WordPress saves the image before the overlay, rounds the opacity to the nearest ten and needs the alt text declared on the block. The theme now does all three, and the covers validate cleanly.
The menu has no box again. The dark pill from 0.1.2 is gone: the links sit in white directly on the photo, as before, with a text shadow and a very soft gradient at the top that keeps them readable over any photograph. That is the same trick transparent-header themes (Astra, Blocksy, GeneratePress) use instead of wrapping the menu in a box.
The header no longer hides under the WordPress bar. While logged in, the admin bar takes 32 px (46 on mobile) and the absolute header was covered at the top. It now leaves that gap.
The text position is no longer set by the editor. “Centre left” and “bottom left” are handled by two theme classes, with the same result and without the attribute that broke validation.
No internal redirects. The buttons in the patterns point to the trailing-slash URLs.

Quick questions

Is it really free?

Yes, GPL licence, with no paid version and no missing modules. Download it, upload it and use it for your clients or for your own shop.

Does it work without WooCommerce?

Yes, and with nothing to do: without WooCommerce the theme switches itself to services mode —the services home, with garden design and maintenance and their “from”—, the cart goes away and no grid is left empty. The theme is made to sell, but it does not force you.

Can I change the colours and the type?

Yes. The palette (green, dark green, cream, ink and greys) and the two typefaces (Inter and Instrument Sans) are declared in the editor: change them there and every pattern follows.

What about the demo photos?

They are photos made for the demo and they ship with the theme, the three review portraits included. If you put your nursery online, swap them for your own: in the editor it is drag and drop.

Which languages does it speak?

Spanish and English. The Spanish translation ships inside the theme, with its contexts.
