Faro Mesa: the restaurant theme, with the menu at the centre

A block theme for restaurants, taverns and seafood houses. The menu in two columns with its prices, the dish of the week, reviews, the group-meal band, events and a booking block with the phone always to hand. Six colour schemes, not one line of JavaScript and nothing to install to see it working.

What it is

A block theme built so the menu leads: the first thing you see is the dish, not a carousel. Everything is edited with the WordPress Site Editor, without touching one line of code.

The whole front page: full-bleed hero with the dish of the day in a circle, four popular dishes, the two-column menu, the dish of the week, reviews, services, the Instagram strip, events and the booking block.
The menu in HTML, not a PDF: two columns with dotted leaders, aligned price and a short description for each dish. It reads on a phone without zooming and it is indexed.
Diet labels on every dish (V, VG, gluten free, lactose free) with a legend at the bottom.
A4 print sheet: the same menu, without menus or header, ready to print or pin on the door.
Page header with a photo: each page takes its featured image as its background, with a dark veil so the headline always reads. The menu, the bookings and the contact page each get their own photo.
No JavaScript of its own: the mobile menu, the dropdowns and the image zoom come from WordPress core. There is not one .js file in the theme.
Bundled fonts: Oswald and Mulish travel inside the theme, as woff2. No request to Google.

Six schemes, one button

Site Editor → Styles → Browse styles. The restaurant picks the one that fits and can change the colours by hand: they are variables, not an image.

Ember: ink black and ember orange. The house one.
Olive: dry green and warm paper, for taverns and country kitchens.
Wine: burgundy and cream, for tables with a cloth.
Marine: sea blue and sand, for fishmongers with a restaurant.
Stone: greys and bone, for those who want the photos to lead.
Night: dark from top to bottom, for cocktail bars and dinners.
